My new job

On Monday I started a new job in the addictions treatment field. Needless to say, it is vastly different than working in mental health. So far it has been an extremely positive difference.
As I have gone throughout my day and become acclimated to my new job duties, I have very much felt like I was "at home" with the clients and staff alike who struggle with addictions. This got me thinking about the addictions field and pondering how many of those of us working in these types of positions have had personal experience with addiction in the past?
I am willing to bet that it's a pretty high number because no one understands an addict better than another addict. I also heard a phrase today that resonated with me and one I have often thought of myself: "One is too many and one thousand is never enough". We are always seeking that fix that can make us forget something we don't want to deal with whether that is a bad childhood, uncomfortable feelings, low self-esteem, past trauma, etc. Honestly I feel as if my Higher Power has meant for me to be in this position because there is nowhere else I would rather be! 😊
