I have had very interesting dreams during my recovery. Incidentally, many have involved my addiction including dreams where a man "saves" me. At least I am just dreaming about men and not acting out with them. #progressnotperfection
OCTOBER 9
Dreams are the touchstones of our characters. — Henry David Thoreau
Touchstones were used to test metal, marking the difference between what was base and what was precious. If we are attentive to our dreams, we may find they help us separate the meaningful from the worthless so that we can better understand our values. Dreams often carry overt or hidden messages about our lives and our hopes and fears. As we recover, we become attentive to these messages that can become the touchstones of our recovery. Dreams can help us distinguish between what we really want and what our addiction has convinced us that we can’t do without. At times, our dreams may be fearful and distressing. We may find ourselves back in our addiction or in the unhappiness of our childhood. But we don’t have to be afraid; sex addiction is part of our history, and yet it needn’t play an active, destructive role in our present lives…unless we let it. We are free, after all, to move forward and change our lives. And as we do, we find our dreams are changing too.
I welcome my dreams and I see in them texts that teach me about my life.
