November 1

NOVEMBER 1
It is not yours to finish the task, but neither are you free to take no part in it. — Anonymous

Nearly every time we make a choice, we let go of something else. When we feel unsure of what to do, we can ask ourselves whether one choice is more positive than the other: “Which will help me feel good about myself? What does my heart tell me to do?” We can allow ourselves not to expect perfection, but to do the best we can — and let go. Each honest choice increases our self-esteem, our faith in our ability to change, and our willingness to keep working. Do you remember your first meeting? From that moment, perhaps, you were no longer alone; you had reached common ground by joining with a group of people who had each made a choice to recover. Getting into recovery may have been the most powerful statement of self-love you had ever made. We found the program, we stay with it, and we work it every day. We are truly marvels of courage and fidelity, shining examples of God’s infinite respect for our choices.

Whether small or large, my choices today matter. I will give each one my best.
